  • 20+ years administrative experience in Unix systems concentrating on Solaris, GNU/Linux, with an emphasis in building infrastructure and tools to support and manage a large-scale (130000+) install base. Familiarity with administration of HP/UX, AIX, and Free/Open BSD systems.
  • Software development experience using Perl, C, Python, Bourne and Korn shell programming for maintenance and monitoring tools. Code revision experience with git, RCS, CVS, and SVN.

Employment History

Oct 2001 - present: Qualcomm, inc.

Lead Systems Engineer, Developer, and Administrator for the Unix Infrastructure group.

Rewrote and maintained the central Unix host configuration system for Solaris, Linux, HP-UX, and AIX. Maintained centralized directory of all hosts and the infrastructure that ensured IT managed hosts' information was up to update. Installed and maintained various software packages deployed to 130000+ hosts. Administered the qualcomm.com AFS cell. Developed data synchronization service to maintain petabytes of data across 48+ AFS cells distributed across the globe in near realtime.

Jul 2001 - Oct 2001: Navy Marine Corps Intranet Project

Systems Architect and project manager under a Navy contract for administering an LDAP infrastructure known as the N/MC White Pages. Maintained Perl scripts used to collect and interpret data from widely varied sources.

Apr 2000 - May 2001: S4R, Inc.

Senior Engineer for software development.

Built server monitoring and trouble tracking infrastructure. Installed and maintained various software tools. Trained new operations staff on trouble shooting of servers and network equipment. Designed and created internal web application used for tracking client contact information, server configurations, and client uptime/system utilization/bandwidth statistics. Installed and maintained email infrastructure. Administered Corporate Time calendaring and scheduling software.

Apr 1997 - Apr 2000: Qualcomm, Inc.

Unix systems administrator for Qualcomm's Corporate IT department.

Built and upgraded over 1000 workstations and servers. Provided 2nd tier phone support in Qualcomm's Sys-Admin Response Center (SARC). Maintained and improved Samba based Unix/NT file sharing infrastructure. Held position of Usenet News master. Performed some postmaster duties as well as email list management and support. Performed Meeting Maker calendaring and scheduling system administration as needed.
